How to Properly Fit Children’s Shoes

Children’s shoes are very important. A pair of well fitted shoes can provide just the right support for a child’s growing feet and make the feel comfortable as well. A child who isn’t thinking about his feet is a child that feels confident when walking, running or just at home doing their homework. Help any child feel good about all food related activities with a pair of properly fitted shoes.

The first important aspect is to make sure that the child has the right size. If possible take a careful note of the child’s foot size at home with a measuring tape. Measure from the top of the child’s toes to the back of the child’s heels. Allow at least a quarter of an inch to make sure there is room for further growth without chafing.

The second important task is to make sure that the shoe fits the child’s heels and back. Look closely at any shoes that you chose. The heel should come up to the side if possible to provide maximum support for a child’s growing feet. The front of the shoe should float lightly above the top of the toe. The child’s toes should have room to move as the child walks around during the day.

The bottom of the shoe should also offer adequate support. Ideally the middle of the bottom should have some give to it. The child should be able to move their foot as they walk and have the center of the shoe provide support but a bit of flexibility at the same time.

Another important aspect of fitting a child’s pair of shoes it to make sure the shoe is properly tied to the foot. The shoe can be laced or held to the body of the foot with straps. The material used should not cut into a child’s foot nor should it be so lose as to worry the child when they walk. Look carefully and make sure any material can be adjusted as needed.

A well fitted pair of shoes will help any child carry out their activities during the day with joy and great happiness.
